Crystal Ruiz and Therese Fischer, both seniors at 麻豆 Free Academy, Main Campus Advanced Video Production class won the National this summer. The 麻豆 and their teacher, Mr. Guy Du Quesnay were honored at the Board of Education meeting on Tuesday.

Teens across the country are challenged to create a video demonstrating safety in the workplace. CareerSafe, Safety Education for America’s Future, is sponsoring the 2018-19 National Youth Safety Video Contest. Students across the country are challenged to create a video demonstrating safety in the workplace. The winning 麻豆 will receive a SkillsUSA Prize Pack as well as a scholarship up to $2,500. The winning school will receive a prize up to $5,000.

“I am extremely excited,” said Therese.  Crystal added “We worked hard but had a lot of fun making this video.”  Mr. Guy Du Quesnay, the class instructor, had this to say, “I’m so proud of them and the work they put in to get this done.” 

This marks the fifth time in six years that the class, Goldback TV, nicknamed “GBTV,” has made the finals, including an award winning third place finish in 2014.  Videos were open to public voting in the spring.  At the end of the voting period the top three videos were chosen and awards presented were Louisville, Ky in June. 

Every seven minutes a teen is hospitalized because of a workplace injury. Every two minutes a teen is injured in the workplace. Every five days a teen is killed in the workplace. To raise awareness about this important issue, teens across the country are challenged to create a video demonstrating safety in the workplace.
